Socceroos Home Jersey Revealed – No Surpises – Ugly

Several weeks back I discussed the Socceroos away strip, and speculated that if it was anything to go by the home strip would be a great disappointment.

Well, today the home strip was revealed and, yes, they’re as ugly as we expected…

Tommy Oar and Craig Moore model the new Socceroos home kit, which the Aussies will wear at the World Cup in South Africa. c/o AdelaideNow

While not as ugly as some of their strips from years ago, it is damn ugly. At least it’s environmentally friendly, being made from recycled plastic bottles… rubbish rebirthed as rubbish. I’m thinking I might have to get myself one of the old tops while I still can.

One positive of the new home strip, the away strip doesn’t look nearly as bad as it did a month ago.

But then that’s just my opinion… what do the rest of you think?

Looks more like a training top. Like you I much preferred the Aussie kit from 4 years ago – simple and stylish.

  • Hello

    lol

  • Vlado

Just heard that because of their terrible jerseys, the team have been renamed the “Shockeroos”… hahaha

  • World Cup watcher

That’s not so bad, there ahve been much much worse football shirts during the past 30 years.

  • pencho15

Well if they are indeed enviromentally friendly then at least you can say something good about the shirt.

  • James

    It’s disgusting.

What was wrong with the 2009 strip – all gold with the green side stripes. Slightly different to the 2006 moel. This was meant to be the new 2010 world cup strip (launched during the qualification campaign) so why the need for yet another new shirt within 2 years? I’ll tell you why, so Nike and FFA can make some more money. However i think this decision will backfire as noone in their right mind would be $140 for one of these. I’m sticking with the 2009 model.

Good news though – we can all save $120+ for booze or whatever else you like!

I got this shirt for free when I subscribed to the Australian FourFourTwo mag (great magazine by the way):
    http://au.fourfourtwo.com/magazine-subscribe.aspx

For free I tells you! And it looks 10 times better than the new jersey.

Shorts are fine, top is ugly, looks like training gear. But its nowhere as ugly as the Korean’s kits, they look like they have hairy chests, due to the tiger pattern.

  • Rash Challenge

Looks like something Ponting and co would be wearing as they tear the poms a new arsehole in the one day cricket.

Not surprised it’s ugly though, Nike have been coming out with some horrendous gear for all the unfortunate nations that have a deal with them for this world cup.

  • http://australia.worldcupblog.org Luka

Saw it in person for the first time. I have to say, it’s not thaaat bad. But for $130…Hell no.

  • Luke Chinnery p.g.f.c.

shame on all of you. its the fukn national shirt. if all you dickeds worried about the football and not what we are wearing we woould be halfway there .having a go at the fukn germans in round one. Luke .Shed Boy. OZY OZY

@ Luke Chinnery, yes you are right, it’s a jersey. But we aren’t dickheads.

It’s probably my fault. i wrote to soccer australia about 2 years ago complaining about their logo and the nike shirt being the most boring of the 32 in the last world cup. i really thought they could only improve the kit, but this is a disaster. i’m so sorry. how can the team be the best they can be if they feel second rate in what they are wearing. ahh! i truely hope i’m wrong and in fact, they really like it.

  • Graham

I just had a good look at it on the nikestore website and can I just add.. what the f..k do soccer australia think they are doing combining their logo with the Australian coat of arms?? That is disgraceful to our nation. They have put their crappy logo where the shield should be that features the flags of the Australian states. it beggars belief. If you did that in brazil, someone would likely be put in jail. Soccer Australia should be ashamed of this aspect of the kit alone.

  • P Dunseath

In a word, boring. Is that the best the designers can come up with?
    $130, no way.

  • http://www.aussierocks.com Kya

Think the official gear is boring? expensive? You’re right! Aussie Rocks’ creators are sure you’ll love our designs, starting at $39.95. Support Australia and wear AUSSIE ROCKS! gear, available at : http://www.aussierocks.com, check it out for yourself!

  • Graham

Sorry mate, Aussie Rocks gear is pretty average. The hype generation is sensational though! Your getting some great mileage from a single logo. Folllow your dreams my son, there is a chance you’ll prosper.

  • Bryan

@Graham, the reason why they don’t have the coat of arms in the logo is because of one main thing – were not officially representing the commonwealth of australia e.g diplomat or sportsman etc.

Coat of arms aren’t suppose to be made available for commercial use. Thats why on the last australian shirt, it had the ball on top of it. I much prefer the ball being on top of it than this one. I’m glad the logo is embroidered this time around, its just a shame we can’t use the coat of arms on our suppporter replica kits.

Seriously, the shirt isnt that bad, hopefully this will change with support of our team against the other three in the group stages…

sure its not as simple or classic as the 2006 wc shirt but its certainly not the worse and its finally good to have a little more green (nice green by the way).

would have been nice to have australia embroidered on the back as well. i feel the ones they currently have will fall off soon.

I’m getting the kit so I can support our team! The 140 dollar price tag is a bit much unfortunately!

  • Donza

To be honest I prefered the old one. But really its not that bad. And with Brasil and South Africa using a similar shirt it is logical to make a shirt with more green so ours is different to theirs.
Suck it up fork out the cash and cheer the boys on!!

  • Graham

Thanks Bryan, yeah i just got a similar reply from http://www.itsanhonour.gov.au/ – they said.. ‘The logo on the Socceroos merchandise is not the Commonwealth Coat of Arms.

The Socceroos are able to use the Commonwealth Coat of Arms on their official playing and dress uniforms. However, the Arms is not permitting on merchandising. I understand that Football Australia have developed the logo, using the Football Australia symbol and elements similar to the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, for use on merchandising.’

Personally I think that all Australians should be able to wear the coat of arms, but I am very relieved to know at least that our team wears a proper coat of arms.

I am going to be in Brasil for the world cup so that will be interesting! I hope we get to face them again. Anyway, can’t wait till we play Germany. I will be wearing my ‘74 replica. I’m so proud that we are there. To do well will just be a bonus.

  • kristy

well i actually really like it….and i’m getting one as soon as i can afford to buy the thing…

  • Thomas

I agree. It’s extremely disappointing. Nike should know better, their effort last time was very good. Just use a simple colour for the shirt, gold, it’s not that hard. If they need inspiration go to the Adidas shirt from 1974. Note that they don’t mess around with the Brasil shirt, they’re not game to.
Why can’t we have a green shirt as the away strip?
Another annoying aspect of this is that we now get a corporate logo instead of the national coat of arms.
