Nigeria game, and the Anniversary!
![]()
Tomorrow we embark on our last game before those dreaded World Cup qualifiers. It will be a long and tough path to South Africa, but that’s a story for another day.
I am excited about the prospect of watching a new era. What I mean is the frontline pairing of Kennedy and McDonald. These two have already proven themselves at club level, and it will be great to see them playing together for Australia. The future is looking good after Kewell and Viduka. Speaking of Viduka, I’m really sick and tired of him sitting on the fence. I respect him greatly, but at the moment he can’t decide if he wants to retire or not. We all saw what happened at the Asian Cup. This time I thought he was injured, but he has just decided to sit out this game. Whoever is the new coach he’d better have a tough stand on Dukes because sitting on the fence is not going to help anyone. Its a shame Cahill is injured, but at the same time it will give some of the younger guys a go and show our depth. We’ll need it for the 2010 campaign.
My first rumour about Dick Advocaat coaching this game wasn’t true, but I was close enough. Apparently he is going to watch the game from the sidelines. If he’s going to be there anyway, why doesn’t he just do his job? Easier said than done I guess.
Finally, a flashback, exactly two years ago, after a long game and penalty shootout, at exactly 10:48pm, John Aloisi wrote his name in Australian totalling folklore. What a night, I cannot describe in words, which is why I’m attaching this video so you can all relive the 2nd anniversary of one of the greatest nights in Australian football.
