Changes to the A-League finals

October 9th, 2007 | By: Rayed Mamun | 1 Comment »

The World Cup qualifiers are under way. Thankfully for us, we don’t need to negotiate the first or second rounds. We get a bye until the third round, however, this is going to conflict with the A-League finals. The FFA has hence changed the finals to accommodate for this. This is very important, as a lot of the players from the A-League will be required for most of the qualification program. Even though each of the qualifiers is on a FIFA international date, many of our big stars may not be able to make the trip from Europe.

Having said all that, whoever our new coach is, Dick Advocaat or whoever, he needs to spend as much time as possible in Australia, watching our young guns playing in the A-League. He can’t just be based in Europe and ignore the great talent that we have in Bruce Djite, Nathan Burns, Michael Zullo and the like. Qualifying for this World Cup won’t be easy, and the coach being based here is crucial.

Our first qualifier is on February 6, against a yet to be determined opponent.

Agreed - him nabbing a $7+million, 2 year deal then spending most of his time chilling in in Europe is just depressing. Why would the FFA let this fly?
