Viduka rejects Socceroos

By: Pat | May 30th, 2009 | 3 Comments »

Embattled striker Mark Viduka has turned his back on the Socceroos for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Qatar, Bahrain and Japan. After being given an option by Pim Verbeek to decide whether he should walk into the squad, the big striker has decided against joining up with his team mates for the crucial matches.

Claiming that he needed a break after his tumultuous season with relegated Newcastle, Viduka has not close the door entirely on his Socceroos future, a view which is shared by Verbeek. The World Game quotes Verbeek as saying that the decision is Viduka’s, and that there will always be a spot open for him to return.

The Socceroos’ next game is on June 7 against Qatar, with us needing a draw or better to confirm our spots at South Africa.

Some of the other A-League teams are still without writers, so if you are interested in voicing your ... [read]

Australia Remain At 32

By: Pat | May 7th, 2009 | No Comments »

The latest FIFA rankings, released yesterday, show the Socceroos at 32 again. In a quiet international month, there were no real movers and shakers, but hopefully this problem will be rectified come June, when the next round of international qualifiers are scheduled.
We remain as the top ranked Asian team, with Spain unchanged as the overall point leaders.

owen-vidukaHello everyone. Sorry for the lack of activity on this blog lately, but the lull in Socceroos action has meant that there’s not much to write about. Socceroos Still at 32

By: Pat | April 19th, 2009 | No Comments »

Australia remains the 32nd football nation in the world according to this month’s FIFA rankings. Having played just a single game since the release of last month’s rankings, our win over Uzbekistan in the World Cup Qualifier didn’t warrant enough points to push us higher up the ladder.

The World Game website have a new football trivia quiz which I can’t stop playing! I thought I knew a bit about football, but this quiz has absolutely taken me to town!
