Beauchamp and Heffernan to Germany

April 4th, 2006 | By: Matt | No Comments »

Michael BeauchampFollowing on from trials in Germany with Nurnberg, Central Coast Mariners pair Michael Beauchamp and Dean Heffernan could be heading back with contracts if the FFA can reach an agreement with both clubs. Both players have been really quite good this season in the A-League, having watched them on numerous occassions playing not only against my side the Victory, but also other A-League clubs. With Beauchamp also being called up to the Socceroos side against Bahrain he seems to be having a stellar 12 months.

Both players deserve to be heading overseas, however the question beckons regarding players in the national league here and what to do with them once the season finishes, as Europe is still in full swing.

We have already seen numerous players, (Archie Thompson and Dwight Yorke to name a few), going to other clubs in order to keep fit for tournaments such as the World Cup, either purely for training or on loan deals. However, in order to keep the league’s integrity I dont think we can allow players to come and go like this at the end of each season.

Anyway back to the story at hand, and I give my congrats to Dean and Michael, as they look to fly the Aussie flag overseas.

Keep your eyes pealed in the coming week as I will write an extended piece regarding the situation of players going overseas in our off season.
