Australia to host in 2018?

I’m Brazilian and we are favorite to host the 2014 WC. However I do have to agree with the Brazilian journalist Juca Kfouri. All the World Cups are to be played in Europe. It just seems rigth. The structure are good, the stadiuns get crowded, the schedule works fine for everybody.

Hi Luis. I disagree. As part of Fifas World Cup rotating policy I think that it is only fair that Australia gets to host. We have shown that we are capable of such events, having hosted the Olympics in 2000, the Formula One Grand Prix annually, and having just hosted the Commonwealth Games.
Also, with the new league just having kicked off last year, and the success that it has had, it demonstrates football in this country is steadily growing, and it will soon be the nations number one sport.

I 100% agree with Matt. How could Australia be looked past as one of the worlds beswt event holders? We have demonstrated this and having made the 2006 World Cup I believe that we are ready to be highly regarded as one of the fastest growing football nations in the world. We have a fantastic side at the moment with players in the FA Premier League and Blackburn who are on the National Squad and younger players who have also found a place in other regions of Europe. We have a bright football future and I believe that we have earned the right to host a Football World Cup. I’m all for it.

I think Australia would be a great world cup host! The name of the competition is “FIFA World Cup” so it SHOULD also be played outside of europe! Australia is more than capable of holding this event!….Hopp schwiiz!!!

I honestly think that even if the world cup was held in Australia that football (soccer) would never overtake AFL as the number one sport.

hA HA MARCUs, AFL? number one sport, everyone in sydney hates it, although nrl reigns supreme at the moments, i think the world cup would elevate football to number 1.

Afl is the best sport p.s go the crows but it would be sick if they came for the world cuo because Australia is the best place in the world. We did a great job for the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2006 Melbourne Commenwealth Games.

I think Australia should host the 2018 World Cup. We have really shown that we can do this!!! And it’s only fair that every country gets a turn. I think we did a gr8 job for the 200 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games, but I just hope this time that the good matches can be held in Sydney!!! I am a true Sydney-sider!!! THE SOCCEROOS DID US PROUD!!!!

It will be great to see Australia bid and win to host 2018 WC game. There will be some things to consider, better stadiums and facilities, especially in Perth [Western Australia], where I’m from and in Adelaide [South Australia].

Perth needs a major stadum to cater codes and international concerts/events. Some want Subiaco Oval face lifted however I believe a better option is this stadium, http://www.stadiumwa.com would be unreal.

Also AFL/NRL will need to stop all games in the month of June [our winter] for one month. Apparently this is a FIFA policy.

Another idea which FIFA may/maynot like considering it was conducted well for Korea/Japan joint co-hosting. Australia an New Zealand co-hosting?

Personally I think co-hosting with New Zealand is the way to go, but whether that is just playing a handful of games there, or including NZ as a full host is a big question, NZ are currently not up to WC standard in soccer

I think for Germany there were about 11 stadiums used, for potential venues we have:
Perth
Adelaide
Melbourne x2
Sydney x2
Brisbane x2 (?)
Hobart (?)
Canberra
Newcastle
Geelong
Wollongong
Townsville

Each venue would have to seat 30,000+ minimum but realistically 40,000+ so that rules out most of the non-capital cities without major upgrades. In that case we’d probably need 2 venues in NZ just to cope with the quantity of football

One thing I’m a bit nervous about is the government underestimating just how big an event it is, basically its bigger than the Olympics and it will be a real challenge for aust to host alone.

Niko, don’t forget the soon to be stadium on the Gold Coast. Apparently it is going to be really big to accomodate for the brisbane games as well. Including NRL and AFL.

The new Carrara would only seat 25,000 so it wouldn’t be big enough (remember that because of the media presence at each game the stadium’s capacity is reduced by a few thousand also)

I would really love to see a World Cup played in Australia, and I think they could put on a brilliant show…time difference might be a bit of a problem with the rest of the world though.

But….I want to see the 2018 WC go back to England, the homeland of football, we have the stadiums and the cities to pull it off, and by 2018 England won’t have hosted it for 52 years!

Realistic: Australia have potential to host the world cup in 2018. But there are two major hurdles:

1: the performance of the socceroos in the next 4 years, and most particular the world cup in 2010.

If the socceroos makes it to the finals again, and to the second round, then I would say the chances of hosting 2018 world cup would be realistic.
So it entirely depends on the socceroos.

2nd: Perhaps more challenging: Arrangments with the AFL, NRL. Both code will have to give up 8 weeks of games in the middle of their season.
Because the tournament historically have been hosted in May-July.

If Australia can pull off the arrangement to host the tournament in October/November, Or Feb/March/April. That is unprecendent and clearly will disrupt the soccer seasons in other nations. Then AFL/NRL won’t have problems.

But I think it is unlikely so we will face the facts that AFL/NRL will have to give up 8 weeks in mid season. Very very tough.
Although I can see this being strategically done and after negiotations; such as having the MCG only for the finals. So AFL can’t use the MCG for two-three weeks, and Telstra Stadium being opening ceremony and hosting games throughout the tournament.

And the NRL can rotate the fixture so the teams would have a bye or away games when their home are being used by the World Cup.

in adelaide we have 3 stadiums not 1 whoeva posted that aami, hindmarsh and adelaide oval ok hindmarsh holds about 22 ammi holds 51,500 and Adelaide oval 35,000 whats wrong with that just cos Subiaco only holds 42,00 cough and crows beat freo cough . It will come to Aus if the socceroos beat the divers Italy

If aus want to host the world cup they will have to make and few more stadiums in citys esle than mel syd bris ade and perth because fifa rule is only 1 city is alowwed to have 2 stadiums so y nt co hosting with nz. an with the hostin of the world cup in 2011 nz wil hav better stadiums
