The war against Iraq

January 30th, 2008 | By: Rayed Mamun | 1 Comment »

Nashat AkramIraq may not have a blog on this website, but I’m going in to bat for them (even though they beat Australia in the Asian Cup, dammit).

Why the hell was Nashat Akram refused a work permit required for his impending signing to Manchester City? Apparently Iraq isn’t in the top 70 ranked teams in the world. If this is the Premier League’s “rule” then somebody PLEASE answer me these questions:

- How did Gudjohnsen play for Chelsea?
- How is Benjani (one of the top scorers this season) playing for Portsmouth?
- What about Lua Lua?
- Benny McCarthy?
- DWIGHT YORKE for crying out loud
- What about that Angolan Man United just signed?

All these players come from National teams with ranks below 70. Iraq is clearly being discriminated against, just because of that stupid war going on there. Makes me sick.

Hey, where is a good place in Sydney CBD to watch the qualifiers?

Not too busy or crazy. Just a good screen, reasonable beer, pub food.
