The Wizard of Guus
Good article in The Age today about how the Italians have no idea who the Aussies are, but they respect the influence of Guus Hiddink enough to take us seriously.
Let’s hope his Midas Touch is good for another game against the Italians.

an arrogant report i feel. these players are products of there respective league teams. they have been playing soccer overseas since their mid to late teens. and australia has always played soccer. just not to an efficent international standard.
basically their fear is misplaced. they are afraid of guus while disrespecting the players talents. they are not no bodies anymore. some of them play in the serie a. so are they playing guus or the players.

Australian? Who are?
Just losers.
Their players play in minor class teams, and 2 players than play in Italy, they are just reserve.
45 minutes with 11 players vs 10!
4 shoots goal for Aus - 7 for Italy.
1 red card to Italy - 0 Aus.
Clear penalty kick at last minutes and they say “Cheat!!”.
Please… GO HOME LOSERS.

Gut wrenching!!!! Sickening!!!! Dubious Decision. Yet as one Aussie who has followed the boys every inch of the way in this campaign I can’t express how proud I am of their herculean effort. Perhaps, when examined under the microscope, one might say that our boys lacked the ultimate ability to convert against the big boys, and lets face it, at the end of the day it’s all about goals. However lets not forget the massive learning curve (of this whole campaign and then playing this ‘Italy’ game) that has been experienced, not only enhancing the collective consciousness of this extraordinary team, but the collective consciousness of all those hearts & souls waiting in the ranks, to right past wrongs, to go that one step further, to take on the best in the world with no respect other then to play the game fairly, firmly, and to the utmost best of our ability and more. As far as I’m concerned Australia is that much closer to winning the world cup. It doesn’t put aside the pain & disappointment that the boys are experiencing right now but they are the Gladiators of our Australian hearts. They will shake the dust from their battle weary bodies and present themselves for 2010. And those who might have retired by then, will have stratospherically inspired countless ranks of eager, skilled, fearless, honourable young players to take up the mantle of playing for Australia with the belief they can ‘win’ against the best. The Australia/Italy game is a turning point. For one day we know……. We will hold that cup. Viva Australia!!!!

Payback! Sorry Guus, the roos are playing way above their heads. Simply not in the league of the Azzuri, a fact.

Losers??? We certainly exceeded expectations in this World Cup and we’ll do it again. Our players showed that whilst they’re not as famous as those from other countries we can certainly give them a run for their money. So if we’re so bad then how did we make it into the top 16 John? FIFA and the rest of the world is scared of us - why? Because we excel in every sport we play. We’re a sporting nation, we’re passionate and we win. We were the underdog this time around but hopefully in 2010 we will have a bit more respect from other nations, FIFA, and the referees. We lost against Italy because of one heart-breaking decision that has surely resulting in a lot of tears today in Australia and had that undeserved penalty not been awarded then we would surely have won on penalties. What a disgrace FIFA!

If refering was correct you should have gone home the first round and italy would have met croatia instead.
