“A gold day for the Gold Coast” ?? I’m sure Surfers Paradise was celebrating with the rest of us in Oz … ;-)

Thanks for those. Interesting to hear the Brit commentary.

Gets better and better with every reviewing!

Australia can get two goals or so from Brazil, if Italian Public Prosecutors do not arrest Zeljko KALAC (GK), who belongs to the “dirty” club team of Serie A of Italian football league, because the Prosecutors has already prosecuted CAFU, the captain of Team Brazil, and because the team has the most serious problem, lack of send-off games.
_
Indeed Brazilian defenders “as individuals” are strong, but their collaborative formation has not yet been completed. Because, unlike the other 31 qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup Germany, only Team Brazil despises test matches of its own all members against other strong national teams like the qualifiers.

If you want to know more about this FACT, read the following article:

[Brazil Weakened! Because of Lack of A-matches.]
_
Team Brazil will not go to the second round in FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, because the team has not experienced any meaningful send-off game at all.

Satoshi, I think you will find Brazil will go through. I put my house on it.

Amanda, I heard that too about the Gold Coast. Maybe the commentator needs educating about Australian geography ;)

As a Brit and having livid in Aussie for 5 years and in Japan for 7 I was supporting neither in general but looking for a good game.It would have been a glorious win for the Australians, had they won with fair tactics and sportsmanship however having watched the game now 3 times I am astounded how they can hold their heads up, they played dirty and I hope they have a hard time with the Brazillians

Diane, it seems clear you are very upset about the result and therefore you are taking out your frustrations on the Australian players. The majority of the Australian players are playing in England, where the EPL is considered one of the most physical leagues in the world. The Australians no doubt played a tough hard game, but I would’t call it dirty. We got just as many yellow cards as the Japanese team did.
It was more down to Australia possessing greater physical strength over the Japanese than anything.

The important thing about yesterday’s win was that Japan is on our level. That in the top five nations of the Asian Football Confederation. I envisage many more encounters in the Asian Cup.

Of course with Brazil and Croatia it will be a different cattle of fish. If we lose by less than 2 goals in Brazil and we manage to draw with Croatia it will be an excellent result.

In regards to Australia being hacks and making fouls I suspect this is one of those stereotypes that goes around football. You know that Italians are always ‘defensive’ and so on.

Let’s remember that these players do not play in small teams in the backblocks of Australia. Most of them play in Europe. I would not consider players who get regular gigs in Serie A or the English Premier League, and also were in finals of major European championships as hacks. They could not be.

Yeah, I know how your mind works, Diane, and your supporter, Fan. People such as yourselves are called sore-losers. Australia won fair and square and it would not have been fair and square if Japan had won 1-0, when the referee has admitted making a mistake by allowing the goal. It’s not as you say that Australian players “play dirty”, its the acting skills of the Japanese players who pretended to be hurt when they tripped over a blade of grass. Ten-pin bowling must be a popular sport in Japan, that must be how the Japanese players learnt how to fall over one after the other when touched by the ball.

Oh Jessica, I don’t hate Aussies, gosh I love them. I don’t support Japan or Australia I support England and very hopefully they will pull their fingers out of their b..s and play better in the next round. I expressed my opinion like everyone else, i thought some of the tactics were very dirty and I expressed that. You can all pass your opinion on to me after England play again tonight.

and Japan’s solitary goal came from a shuv, then a deliberate elbow pushing Mark Schwartzer to the ground. Leaving the ball to fly into an unguarded net. Wow! Seems like a team that really plays fair. Go the SOCCEROOS!!!
