Socceroos Cahill Concentrates on Club
The World Cup forces players to do and say utterly ridiculous things. Take the example of Australia’s Tim Cahill who says that if he doesn’t play well for his club team Everton he might not be chosen to play for Australia in Germany this summer.
“It’s been fantastic getting to the World Cup but it’s also a bit of a hindrance for my club football because it’s given people a bit of a shot at me to think that I’m just concentrating on the World Cup and trying to keep fit for that,” he says.
“What people tend to forget is that I might not be at the World Cup at the end of this season if I don’t play well for Everton.”
Nice sentiments for Everton supporters to hear but does it really ring true? I don’t think so. Cahill is a lock to play for the Socceroos. His skill level and experience are enough that Guus Hiddink would be crazy to leave him at home.

It’s all part and parcel of club v country politics Bob. Everton are inching their way back up out of relegation and Timmy is simply pandering to the club fans to make sure they know he’s committed - which he is, with him, they’d be running next to Sunderland.
Come on you Aussies!
