Skoko Trying to Stoke a World Cup Starting Spot

February 8th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

The road to Germany goes through Stoke City for Socceroo midfielder Josip Skoko. Moving from Wigan where his minutes have been limited, Skoko goes to Stoke City in hopes of gaining minutes and regaining his form. The move is a turnabout for Skoko who turned down a loan last month, but who apparently has reevaluated his options.

Skoko has played an important role for the Socceroos over the past few years, but has recently lost his starting position under coach Guus Hiddink. He has started just once since Hiddink took over the helm as coach.

Will lower division English football be the key for Skoko? At this point the guy just needs to get some minutes and to regain his sharpness. If that means spending time in a place like Stoke City than this is the right move for him.
