Score Predictions?

June 22nd, 2006 | By: Matt | 32 Comments »

Hopefully this won’t be the last time I will ask you guys for score predictions during the World Cup. A draw is all we need to qualify but a win is what we really want.

What do you predict the score will be come full time and 7am tomorrow morning (Aus time)?

Im picking Australia 2-1 Croatia (I got the Brazil score right ;) )

Will Australia score v Croatia?
Depending on the attitude of the Croatian side Australia will either win 2:0 or lose 2:0.
Honestly, if Croatia plays as they did v Brazil, it will be very difficult for Australia to get in a position to score goals and there only hope will be long range shots.
With this match, you will know in the first minute by the tempo of the Croatian if it is going to be an Australian or a Croatian win.

1:1 with Viduka scoring the Australian goal. Japan loose to Brazil and Australia go through.

WE GOT THE BETTER CROATIAN PLAYERS.

2-0 Australia. They’ll push hard for an early goal, and once they’ve got it, they’ll sit back and wait for Croatia to stuff up. They’ll get a second when the Croatians get desparate and throw everything forward at the end.

Watch out for Klasnic though. He’ll probably come on in about the 55th minute, and playing against tired defenders might be exactly what he needs to get into some form.

I’m going for Australia 2-0 and crossing all my fingers and toes.

Jono, in the articles I read the Socerros said they thought they played really well in the first half but less so in the second, more offensive, half. This is pretty accurate. The players appear to have a good understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. A sense of confidence is essential if you want to win but this doesn’t mean they aren’t also self-critical and looking to improve.

australia 2-0 while missing about 10 good shots. croatia will attack and attack hard tomorrow. which will open up for australias attacking players who love playing counter attack in the premier league. look out for cahill. i think viduka will be marked closely at the front which will create space for bresciano and kewell. the question is do croatia have a striker who can do the freaky. every side has one. australia almost i would say. australia has at least 3 – 4 players on the ground at one time who can score goals (or supposed to viduka)but bresciano, cahill and kewell are the big three attacking that croatia may not be able to stop as well as putting the aussies under constant pressure when looking to attack. this is what i think hiddink will count on. because if australia defend only that will fall into croatias hands. a great game anyway awaits us.

Martin Tyler, on SBS tonight, just bet his house that Australia will win, and compared the match equal to the England-Brazil match in the 1990 world cup. That’s high praise from a very respected footbal commentator of many years. I predict Australia will win 2-0, but instead of betting my house I will make a modest outlay even though I am not a betting man. Wishing and dreaming and hoping, because it is probably Viduks’s last World Cup, that he scores at least one goal; two if he wants both. I’ll be happy with that.

Sorry, the match Martin Tyler compared to the England-Brazil match, was the recent Australia-Brazil match.

Yeah, Tyler is my favourite commentator. I have to listen the the vile here on ESPN. It is very ordinary.

Australia 2-1. There will be goals in the game for sure. Croatia have to score. Aussies will play same as always which usually means goals too.

What a cracking, frenetic 1st half. I’m buggered just watching it.

Great opening goal, Kalac was a bit sluggish. Pity the equaliser had to come from a spot kick.

Poll right on the ball.

Best 45mins of football so far.

Bring on the 2nd half!

The Croats will win because the Croats on the Aussie team will lose the game for Australia. When push comes to shove, their loyalties are completely with Croatia – not the land of their birth Australia. Sad but true. Even three Aussie Croats left to play for the “motherland”. These blokes have no loyalty and no one should be surprised when Australia loses today.

Kalac is a liability.

Graham Poll made a hash of that in the end.

One hand ball given, one missed.

The penalty Viduka cried for wasn’t given because of his ruse earlier when he went down holding his face.

Italy next chaps.

I enjoyed that game until the 80th minute and then it went tits-up with cards coming out left, right and center.

Cheers Phooey. That was one of the most bizare endings. I though we had scored then Simunic three yellows.

Emerton not playing next game is a worry though.
