O’Neill and Allardyce Linked With Oz Job
While Houllier is the FFA’s number one target to succeed Guus Hiddink, it has emerged that Celtic’s Martin O’Neill and Bolton Wanderers’ Sam Allardyce are candidates for the top job. The news comes as Houllier has been given until after the World Cup to make up his mind as to whether he wants the job or not.

VIVA L’ITALIA — I was hoping that italy would play brazil in second round so they could do to them what they did back in 1982 .. but to play australia is good as well .. i hope that luca toni puts 3 past australia so that all the austrlians can suffer for calling italians grease balls and wogs!!!!

Well done boys, it’s probably not often you hear this, but I think all of Britain was rooting for you today and will be pleased at the outcome! Except maybe Graeme Poll.
Anyhow, I can’t see Allardyce wanting the job so that one’s a non-starter. Of the other two, I’d go with O’Neil if he wants if. He’s got the exciteable temprement and big mouth and personality to engage public interest and win the team’s repsect. Houllier’s too much of a philospher and I can’t see him fitting in with the team’s all-action ethos.
I hope you stuff the defensive Italians!

A pity you english did not hire Guus!
Definately the best coach ever performing in worldcup football.
Congratulations to the ozzies, it was the best game so far i have seen this worldcup. And good luck Guus against those grease-heads of Italy. Be aware, they play even more dirty then the Croats!
A dutch football fan.

To be honest I haven’t really been impressed by any of the supposed options for the new manager. I wish the FFA had gone with Johan Neeskens and Graham Arnold for the next 2 years and then get Hiddink back from Russia.

Go the aussies!!!!

Not an English manager please! not because
i dislike th English because I do not but because we do not want their style of play. We want to play a passing game!
We need someone that will help us technically and tactically and he has to be a HUGE media personality as well

@Vikingo. Cheers mate. If the Aussies go out next round I will be supporting the Dutch and English.
Now after watching that game, can the rest of the world stop calling us dirty. Tell me the Croats didn’t try to kick, push, pull, handball us off the park tonight.
@Liam, surprise to hear Britian supporting us convicts.
Great effort Socceroos.
Kalac has atleast made up Guus mind as to who will be in goals against Italy. Emerton a worry though.

Nice job Socceroos
Italy next, C’mon Aussies C’mon you can do it

i dont care who coaches australia, as long as they have coached at a high level competition (italy, england and spanish comps mainly), i dont think a scottish coach would be a great choice. only because i dont see a high class international standard competition although they have some good international players. i hope they keep australian squads in the future fully fit and hard working. nothing is worse than going back to the 3 day camp before major games and thats it. like frank farinas reign and the top players only play at the last hurdle. thats my worry. but i’m sure the ffa will demand all players make themselves available when national duties beckon. like under hiddink. i think australia has to go all out for a fully experienced and high profile coach. the life style should appeal. mainly houlier comes to mind.

give guus everything he wants to get him back for next world cup. let him choose who we should get.

My guess is Ritalin.

@ Martin, people have taken to the Aussies for a number of reasons.
Firstly, even though your players are maybe not individually all that popular, they are at least familiar and psychologically that makes them easier to identify with than strangers.
Secondly, the Brits love an underdog.
Most importantly though, this Aussie team has played good, fast football in the British style and has been great to watch!

Martin O’neill is a good manager has done alot of good for the Celtic Football club and let us all hope that hollier doesn’t set foot in Australia caus he is hopeless. Raphael Benitez is still trying to fix up his mistakes at Liverpool including Cisse.

heh marco cool it dude. You must hang out in some wierd places. The racism was ugly but you guys gave as good as you got & i haven’t seen it for 20 years. We know you have a great team, good luck

if Australia choose o’neill or allardice it will set us back 10 years. British football continues to be outdated, their only clubs that perform are managed by foreigners. Granted Ferguson had success with Man U but once other Clubs had equivalent finances they became second rate
