Neill on Kewell

May 30th, 2006 | By: Matt | 2 Comments »

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Lucas Neill had this to say about Harry Kewell and his return to training following his injury.

“Harry came through his session with a smile at the end, which is a good sign,” he said.

“He’s sounding very positive.

“So he seems to be on the mend. It’s a matter of fingers crossed for everybody. He can change a game single-handed.

“You saw that [in the playoff second leg] against Uruguay. But we have a very talented team, which aims to make its mark at the World Cup.

“It’s not just about Harry

Kewell showing what he can do. It’s about the team as a whole.”

It’s great to see that the team has developed to a stage where we can still perform without Prince Harry. Don’t get me wrong, I have admired him for many years and he is world class on his day.

However, the team has now arrived in Germany, having belief in themselves, whereas, in the past it seemed that they were a bit reliant on the big names to produce.

I suppose they’re all big names in Aussie now aren’t they?

Bring on Brazil!

They are all big names now and it’s good that our highest valued player is not Harry. We say it almost every generation but this is by far the greatest Socceroo team we have ever put together.

Let’s get past Japan first before Brazil!
