Neeskens Wants Top Job
Current assistant coach Johan Neeskens has come out and said that he wants an answer whether Football Australia want to appoint him as Hiddinks successor after the World Cup. As the hunt for a new coach continues, Neeskens has said that he wants the job, but has a position waiting for him in Russia working alongside Hiddink. Neeskens would work with Arnold should he be appointed the top job, and many supporters are indeed in favour of this move. With both men having spent the last 10 or so months working with Hiddink and learning from him, it does seem a favourable move, instead of forking out millions to bring over a top international coach. Whether or not Neeskens does get the role he is holding out for will no doubt be decided in the upcoming weeks.

I would give him the job. Arnold can stay as his deputy. Neeskens doesn’t have the glamour that Football Australia were seeking but he is just as famous as the others being touted.
If obviously the best coach we have ever had, in Guus, thinks he is good enough to go with him to Russia, then why is he not good enough for Australia?
Neeskens was part of the Dutch “Total Football” era and you can see under Guus, he has the Socceroos leaning more towards this style of play. This would only keep improving under Neeskens.
By getting a new coach who is not familiar with the set-up, you are starting again from zero.

Yeah I wouldn’t be too fazed about Neeskens taking over. He has the knowledge to carry on with the team, especially with Arnold at his side. A number of people are saying that we need to invest abroad and bring in the likes of a Houllier to take us forward but I disagree. All a big name brings is a hefty fee and glamour. The business is done on the pitch and I think Neeskens and Arnold can do just as good a job as any.
