Kewell To Play Liechtenstein
As we thought, Harry Kewell is set to play against Liechtenstein Thursday morning our time. It is unlikely that Kewell will get a full 90 minutes, and I suspect we will see him get a run from the bench rather than a starting spot. It is also understood, that Hiddink will use the Liechtenstein game to give fringe starting players and those coming back from injury a run ahead of our game against Japan. We are likely to see Kewell and Cahill amongst this group, as well as Aloisi, Popovic, Thompson, Skoko etc. With Liechtenstein being ranked outside the top 100 in the world, there is little emphasis on this game and it is being touted as practice rather than anything highly competitive.
Hopefully, our side remains intact after 90 minutes and we don’t come away with any injuries, less than a week away from our first group game.

wouldnt it be better to play your fringe players for the first half then play your best side for japan in the second half. at the end of the day though, its a good selection headache.

Yeah thats true. I’d rather we were in a position where we didn’t know who to play rather than being forced to play certain players due to injuries.

abosolutly. i mean those are probably our best players. but i think gus has to go for aloisi and viduka to start against japan, then have thompson or skoko come in fresh in the second half for and use there pace like thompson did against the dutch. but surely kewell will start against japan. he is our most skilled player. when fit anyway.

The best Australian side would be Viduka and Aloisi up front, Kewell, Bresciano and Timmy Cahill in support, Grella and Culina in holding positions with the backline of Craig Moore, Chipperfield and O’Neil. And of course Schwarzer in Goal. That should be fine for Japan + Croatia. Against Brazil, a 9-1 formation should be considered.

the minute we go defensive minset against brazil is the minute we lose. australia should attack like never before. my 11 would be
viduka aloisi
cahill
Bresciano kewell emerton
grella
neil moore chipperfield
schwarzer

Australia’s strongest Line-up:
Viduka
Kewell Cahill Bresciano
Grella Culina
Chipperfield Moore Neil Emerton
Schwarzer
Lets play defensive at the start and counter-attack. If we need a goal, then lets take off a defensive midfielder, bring on Aloisi and play with two upfront(4-4-2).
Go Aussies!!!!

Bigone has got it 100% correct. That’s our strongest line-up and to bring Aloisi in would be needed for goals.
But, who else should be on the bench and?
