How Far Will We Go?
Now that the glow is beginning to wear off from simply qualifying for the World Cup it is time to start thinking about what would be a good tournament for the Socceroos and what would be a disaster. For me, it is fairly simple. A good World Cup would be getting out of our group. Anything beyond that would be icing on the cake.
For me a disaster would be not winning a game, following in tradition of the 1974 team. We all know that beating Brazil is going to be very tough, but I think it isn’t unrealistic to think that we can’t beat Japan or Croatia. Japan is an average team at best. Croatia is a good team, but our players are very familiar with theirs. If we were to lose all three of these games, it would be a disaster.
But I don’t think that is going to happen.

Dont get too exited about a chance of beating Croatia i cant see it happening. Croatia’s defence is one of the best in the world and they will know closing down Viduka and Kewell will stop close to any chance of the australian team from scoring. No disrepect to other players such as Cahil but Croatia will be too strong for Australia. Also australia’s defence will find it hard from keeping Prso, Klasnic and Srna quite like the Argentina team did. But the best of luck to Australia i hope we both qualify.

I respect the fact that Australia qualified for the WC top of their group. I respect they lost only one match during the preliminaries and I respect them because there are Croats on the squad.
BUT…..
Playing against such teams as Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu is quite different than playing against Croatia, Brazil and Japan.
You mention Japan being an average team at best…I agree with that statement as far as their technical ability goes; but they are one of the hardest working teams on the pitch. They will run around and attack the opposite goal for the full 90 minutes…never giving up. Look at their performance at WC2002. There is few teams that can keep up with their vigor on the field. This will be a hard match for the Aussies.
Beating Croatia is another hard task. We are a strong oponent. Your appriach will have to be a very tachtical one…and the best chance of moving to the next round is to utilize Hiddiks experience. He knows our players alot better than your players know us.
Let’s not even talk about Brazil.

not going to biother watching the cup ….
we need players like ljubo Lilicevic at the back not some A legue player come on …….
