Hiddink Sticking with Socceroos - Unlikely

February 2nd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Guus Hiddink is in demand these days, but his current employer, the Football Federation Australia, still hasn’t ruled out the chance that he’ll stick around after guiding the Socceroos in Germany this summer. Even though it knows those chances are slim.

“Have I given up hope? No, no,” said chief executive John O’Neill. “He might say he likes Australia so much that he’ll see out his PSV contract and come and join us. I doubt that, but nothing is in, nothing is out.

“We’ll have a chat about the future, we have an understanding there are no secrets, and I guess I’ll find out if the England approach is a real one, or just newspaper talk.

“Equally, though, we’ve got some contingency plans. We’ve worked on the presumption it would be unlikely we would be able to retain Hiddink after the World Cup.”

Let’s cut to the chase here. Hiddink isn’t staying in Australia. The guy loves a new challenge and clearly he can command money that the Aussies cannot dole out. He’ll be gone the day after the Socceroos bow out. I think everyone involved is ok with that.
