Harry Kewell Cleared

June 20th, 2006 | By: Matt | 50 Comments »

Yes. That is correct. Harry Kewell has been cleared to play against Croatia on Friday. The reason came down to conflicting referees reports after the match. The footage we have seen clearly loses him losing the plot so I think he was quite lucky. Had that been in a game for Liverpool in the Premier League I think he would have been suspended.

Anyway who cares, Kewell will play against Croatia.

What happened was, Merk refused to hear Viduka’s pleas + questions. Merk must at least hear the captain’s pleas and explain to him the decisions he makes. Merk refused Viduka that right - enshrined by FIFA!

So Merk was at fault. End of story.

It does seem as though this is a bit of a slap in the face for Markus Merk. If they’d simply wanted to defuse the situation they could have just fined Kewell. ‘Inconsistent testimonies’ sounds like they think Merk might not be telling the truth.

This is a big deal, because Merk might have been in line to ref the final of this tournament. Judging by FIFA’s reaction to this issue, I think he’s probably blown his chance.

Don’t be so nasty Drax. Every player does his best for his country. Harry can’t help his injuries. No one can. If you can do better why aren’t you there backing the Roos up? Really, enough already.

I am so not impressed by Harry Kewell. He missed those great chances which would have put Australia in a great position to challenge Brazil.

His rant against the referee could have easily resulted in a red card yet Markus Merk let him off the hook by not carding him.

Now he has a reprieve to play Croatia, and its high time he delivered!

troy .. your a real trouble maker you know .. your the type of guy who gets bashed when out and then asks why!!! And why cant there be the posibility that australia put the cash out to not get kewell banned??? In italy and germany they have just proved that it can happen … sep blatter stated that he wanted all that stuff to stop … so there is a very good chance that money was put under the table (look at it this was daniele de rossi may get up to 6 games ban for what he did) so if thats the case then kewelle should have at least got one … so troy once again you the one whop knows nothing about football .. and its not that everythiong they do im against .. its just the morons like you that shit me .. coz your all one way and cant see the truth .. when ayustralia beat greece and drew with holland all you said was ‘OHH ITS THE RESUT THAT COUNTS’ Even though against holland australia was pathetic and lyucky not to lose 5 or 6 1 … and now that you lose to brazil its changes .. onnn we lost but what a greate prefromance .. the performace is what counts here .. so make up your mind — your the only ideot here

Marco you are an idiot!

You are one of those know-it-alls who believes they are better than everyone else. I bet you believe you’re a better judge of football because of your ethnic origins too?

all i want to say is i had no expectation on how good australia was going to be. they are constantly rising to new levels. and i want them to go as far as they can. however being realistic they have already performed better than anyone expected. i was merely pointing out australias results. that this is what they had acheived. but i did say australia did play poorely against the dutch, and the were lucky on a few times the dutch didnt score. i was only stating my opinion and i dont like people with no valid argument against besides i’m an idiot australian who doesnt know what i’m talking about. australians have every right to have an opinion on this blog and we dont need someone constantly saying we are idiots for doing so. go roos

It has taken Harry Kewell and his outburst to awaken FIFA. From the negative comes the postive. Admittedly what Kewell did was against the rules fo the game, but he is human and his patience with the antics of Merk had reached boiling point. Merk, on the other hand, also lost it. He forgot he was the referee and had the power to red-card Kewell on the spot. Instead, Merk reacted in the same manner as Kewell, but worse by saying to Kewell it was the end of his World Cup appearance, therefore pre-empting FIFA’s disciplinary committee. That’s a cardinal sin as far as FIFA is concerned and it will be the end of Merk, and deservedly so. Looking back at the last world cup and the abysmal refereeing, and what has happened is some matched of this world cup, all I can add is that FIFA should lift it’s game (pun intended) and appoint far better professional referees than some of the miserable few we have seen to date.

i agree, but we must remember that nationalistic pride probably comes into the refs heads as well and they probably have there own favourites. but as long as the fouls are there and consistancy is there, there wont be any complaints from players outside the norm. i just hope the ref this game against croatia doesnt get whistle happy with both teams and ruins a good game. sometimes i think if the ref let play continue on more often when players hit the ground pretending to be hurt (sometimes they are) rather than guess that a foul occured they will be forced to get up quicker and be more accountable and hence managers may penalise there own players for puting the team under pressure by not getting back to defend. i beleive diving in this world cup is working better than every. the refs are whistle happy and they dont seem to be cracking down on diving just punishing the innocent us usual.

Svelte Rogue………how did I insult others based on their ethnic origins? You need to read a lot more of marco’s posts before you can make any judgements on me.
All I was trying to say is that we are all equal, where-ever we come from, and our opinions on football are all relevent whether we come from a traditional footballing superpower or a minow like Australia.
People are entittled to their opinions, but when those opinions are outlandish and have no basis, then those people should expect an aggresive response.
I hope my spelling was to your liking?
