Guus to Russia
Ok. So yesterday I reported that Hiddink and his agent had stated he was not in the running for the England job. Well, neither is Hiddink in the running for the Australian job past the World Cup.
News today is that after months of beating around the bush Hiddink will become the new coach of that icey, vodka drinking, mail order bride country called Russia. Why he would want to coach there, apart from the fact that its close to his home in Holland, is beyond me. But that’s another story.
Guus has done alot during his time in charge of the green and gold, and he should be congratulated. Furthermore, I am sure he will do well with the team at the World Cup, and during his time in Russia. However, the search is now on for the new national coach. Whoever it is has big shoes to fill.

So who should the next coach be? Should Australia go for another of these high-paid, mercenary coaches who sticks around for the time it takes for the next big tournament to roll around? Or should they go for someone who will stick around for a long time and actually try to build a team and some consistency?
Is consistency in coaching even necessary at the international level anymore? Is there any coach in Australia at the moment who has the skills and the reputation to handle the national job, seeing as they have to wield a big stick in order to get the overseas based players away from their club teams?
