Easybeats? Maybe Not

June 15th, 2006 | By: Matt | 28 Comments »

While the news that Brazil will field their strongest team against us worries a number of Australian supporters, they will do this despite some believing it is not necessary and we are easybeats. This could have been Brazil’s downfall. Not that we realistically stand a chance of beating them, let alone a result, but a good show against the World No.1 will surely raise a few eyebrows, and make the world take notice of us. Having never been at a World Cup for the lifetime of a huge number of football supporters, we have never been able to show the world what we are capable of. This could all change on Sunday night. Having won our first game, many are still not convinced. The only thing to have come out of the press regarding our side is that we are now referred to as ‘bullies’. Bullies or not, come 4am Monday morning, the rest of the world will have a better judgement of the team from down under. Who knows, we might suprise some people.

australia beat brazil a few years ago, so we will have confidence. australia wont go into the game beleiving the reults already on the board. the brazilian and croatian supporters already have us down for a 4-0 thrashing and brazil to go through

If USA defeated England in 1950 and North Korea defeated Italy in 1966, then it is possible that Australia can defeat Brazil in 2006. I fear Croata far more than Brazil.

..a while ago i’ve put money on the Aussies beating Brasil …everyone thought CRAZY!! my take is not based on gambling compulsion but on information :i’ve seen about a dozen players from Down Under in many games around Europe and i know that they are a bunch of skillfull, strong ,motivated individuals ..what was lacking in the past was a merging factor now there is one and it is big HIDDINK ..i believe that on sunday many people (Arena??) will have to reconsider their take on the SoccerWHO’s ?? go make all of us dream that you can woop the fat brasilian asses!!

Best of luck. They can be beaten, get at them and make sure you run rings around pieboy Ronaldo, he looks out of sorts and if he starts he is Brazil’s weak link. Just hope that they are blinkered enough to keep him on as Robinho is a bloody good player.

A good performance by Australia against Japan, but I think you’re getting a bit over exicited now thinking you’ll beat Brazil. Japan are certainly not the best of teams, but Brazil are, so I think the Aussies need to focus and not get carried away. Good luck.

Cheers Chris.

The only chance we have of upsetting Brazil is if we go into the game with such a positive attitude. Looking to win. Not draw. Not lose.

Our trump card has to be Hiddink.

Can’t wait for the game. Should be a cracker!

The way I see it why can’t Australia’s 2006 victims list which includes the European Champions Greece and Asian Champions Japan have the addition of the South American/World Champions Brazil? Its not unrealistic, brazil playing at their full potential can give Australia a serious drubbing however they are not. They are underdone, over confident and performing far below par, infact they were fortunate to even win their first game. Only going up against below par opposition since qualifying for the World Cup perhaps its a decision Parreira will regret. This will be a very interesting match either way, Go the SOCCEROOS!!! Aussie!Aussie!Aussie! Oi!Oi!Oi! :)

In the 1982 World Cup Finals, Brazil’s team was hailed as unbeatable and probably the best team alongside its 1970 team. Practically everyone assumed it would easily win the cup. In the quarter-finals, Brazil played Italy in one of the most memorable matches because both teams played superbly. Brazil played like champions, but so did Italy, and Italy won 3-2. This time Brazil is once again assumed to win, but on what reputation, except that it is Brazil? It’s getting to the stage where just the name Brazil means a loss for the opposing team. Sorry, don’t accept that. History proves me right. Brazil has won many games but has also lost many games, and there is the possibility that it may also lose against Australia. It’s not impossible.

goodluck, i hope Australia can give a real bad time for brazil, specially for Ronaldo sized, so ´parreira can replace him for good and then brazil will be able to play better with robinho, adriano, kaka and ronaldinho, just like b4. :)

enzo, yes dude u are right and wrong at same time, but hear this, anything on life and sport is 10% skill and 90% will, if Australia put alot will Australia could win, but brazil have the skill and if brazil put all his will, no1 can stop.

Jeffg, you are right. If Brazil put 100% into the game and our boys do (as always) then logic will tell you that the team with the most skill will win - Brazil.

But when do soccer games go with logic!

Many people in the Australian media have said that our ‘Aussie Aussie Aussie…Oi Oi Oi’ and ‘Come on Aussie Come on’ slogans are a bit short, especially as compared to the ditties sung by the English fans. And, good Australian poems are too wordy as slogans.

Here is a slogan I wrote using typical Aussie parlance.

Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

I present the above slogan to all Aussie sports fans: take it, shout it, and inspire the players to win more matches. Also, I have developed this slogan into a ditty celebrating Australia’s historic win against Japan at the FIFA 2006 cup. Please get these to the fans in Germany, so that they can blast the stadium with it.

“Downunder Thunder”
By Nalin Kant

Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Japs kick it hard, and
Ref makes a blunder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Trained ‘em hard to win
Guussy mad with anger
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Kick it left, kick it right
Timmy, kick not asunder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Aloisi not too far
He can do wonder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Guys from Downunder
Make biggest Thunder

Happy shouting fans!!

All Australian players are fulltime professionals in Europe, not part-timers in Australia teams as they were in 1974. Brazil is not full of superhuman players from another planet. They have weakness like all players. This will be a game of strategy, and the Aussies have the capability to upset Brazil. I admire the way Brazil play the game, but Brazil is not the be-all and end-all of football. They were lucky to win a final on penalties against Italy and were thumped by France in another final. They are beatable, and sometimes, easily.

australia want it badly, the brazilians expect it. this attitude always ends in the later being pushed all the way or losing.

I think Australia will do well.I know what they get up to in the change rooms.Viduka and Harry both wear leather shorts. The one’s with the buttoned fly.I have seen them on the floor feeling each other up in leather before games. Its a sight to see!!!

Go Australia!!!
