Benitez: Kewell out for two

May 13th, 2006 | By: Matt | 14 Comments »

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has said that Harry Kewell will be out for around two weeks.
The club have described Harry’s injury as ‘muscular’ and he should be right for the World Cup.
On the Liverpool website, Benitez said, “It was a disappointment for Harry to come off in another final and I think he will be out for two weeks but I think he will be okay for the World Cup.”

Let’s hope he is correct!

Big deal .. i hope he does not play as he does not deserve his spot .. always gets the glory of australian soccer yet breshiano is a better player — kewelle never cared about the the soccerroos .. always making excuses and saying he was injured .. only now that he gets no game time at liverpool and that australia made it he wants 2 play .. shmae on u harry!!

Harry gives the Socceroos confidence, that little extra that could mean the difference between a first round exit or progressing further into the tournament. Whatever his grievances in the past, Harry seems focused on the Socceroos cause. You are right though, Bresciano is at the same level as Harry (or maybe better) but Harry boosts the team that little extra when he is playing.

Im an Oz living in the UK & have watch plenty of football.

Harry has been playing extremely well over the last six months & has a regular spot in the Liverpool team, you don’t get that by just sitting around.

yea whatever .. i hope you australia finishes second and italy tops it group so they play each other .. and then i hope italy pumps them 7-0 with luca toni scoring 5 goals …. i mean i am an australian but also italian background and im sick of how italy and italians are so badly discriminated here in australia .. an example being how you never hear about breshiano or grella!!!! and the fact that Italians built australia .. just like they did with america really hurts — a bit of respect would be nice!

Marco, the only discrimination is seen inside your own head mate. I’m an Aussie living in USA (also lived in UK too) and this has made me realize how Australia really is the lucky country. If you feel that much discriminated, then you are free to go and live somewhere else, and maybe then you might realize that you are seeing things. For the record, it’s spelt Bresciano – and there you are asking for respect. For those who know all things about Aussie and Worldwide football, Bresciano and Grella get as much respect as the others (who are non-Italian background). I’m surprised you didn’t include a conspiracy theory as to why Max Vieri didn’t make the team also. I watch Bresciano and Grella as much as I watch Viduka, Kewell, Cahill, Schwarzer and co. It would be nice to see more of Kalac too, but tv schedules dictate what we can and can’t see. Have you ever thought this might be why they seem to not get as much respect – media coverage. I’m sure if you asked either Mark or Vince why they don’t get respect they would laugh at you and say what are you talking about. Marco, just drop the crap and give the Socceroos (and the Italians) the support they need at this time instead of whinging about respect. Repect is something which you earn, not cried for.

martin you dont even live in australia and you wanna tell me that you know more than me … in the papers and on Tv you never see the italian leage (or any other leagues) appart from the english league and all you hear is Kewell thiss and kewell that and oh sorry you hear about cahill as well, and every now and then viduka .. viduka scored 16 times this yr to wat 3 by kewell (while Bresciano was highest scoruing midfilder in serie a a couple seasons ago but once again you dont hear that either- and yet serie a is the best league in the world as well) so come and talk to me about soccer when you acctually know something ok. Oh also Kalac does not play, so even if they showed Ac milan games youd see him on the bench (shows how much you really know about soccer). As for max vieri he didnt make it coz hes no good … And by the way who said this isnt a lucky country – i neva said that. Also how many times have i watched a champions league match between an italian team and a foreigh team (and the australian comentators) boast about the other team and how there good and this and that (an example was the Milan V Leon match) when for the last 40 minutes the comentator was like ohh AC milan are fnished there over and done with .. yet they still ended up winning — so again it is very clear to see how italians dont get the recongnition they deserve, wether inside the country or out of it!!!!

Back to the football boys, there are other forums around for kids who want to cry about how hard life is! Get a grip Marco.

Australia cannot get past the group stage without Harry Kewell at his best. We simply do not have enough attacking players in our team with the class of Kewell. I agree that Bresciano is also in this class, we need them both on the field to have any chance. Remember the Uraguay match? Kewell came on and made the difference for the Bresciano goal, and who can forget how Kewell turned Rio Ferdinand inside out for his goal in the England win?
Comon boys, stop giving Kewell a hard time for not making the 24hr trip to play Fiji,Tahiti, etc. If you were playing in the Premier League and you asked the manager’s permission to fly 24hrs for a mickey-mouse game in which you could risk injury, what do you think the answer would be? Don’t underestimate Harry’s passion for his country, but also give him a break for looking after himself and his employer.

And, Italy sucks as a team. Totti is unprepared after his recent injury. The others are not much to brag about. Too bad about Vieri’s untimely injury, but Italy ain’t going nowhere beyond first three games.

Marco,

Just cause I don’t live in Oz at the moment doesn’t mean I don’t know any less than you. There is this internet thing and phone calls which keep me abreast of the game back home. We also get the A-league on tv here as well as the Italian, English, German, French, Brazilian, Argentinian, Mexican, Spanish, US leagues here as well as the Champions League. I watch the Italian league every week and have been to a game in Italy as well as England. Both leagues as just as good as each other but have totally different style of play…Italian more tactical witht the English faster and more attacking. It’s good for Australia that we have great players playing in both leagues, so that when they come together for Australia we have a great blend of tactical defense (Serie A) and fast attack (Premier League). BTW, I think the Italian league has been in the papers a lot lately, albeit for the wrong reasons (match fixing).

Bigone is right though, we need Kewell just as much (maybe a little more) than we need Bresciano and the other boys. Kewell is playing for one of the best clubs in the world and is playing near his best football. We have one of the strongest midfields in the world, and all the boys play an important part in our success.

Australia doesn’t have the pedigree of the Italians and most of the other nations in the World Cup, but we will give a good showing in the world cup and with a bit of luck, progress to the second round and show the world that we are a proper footballing nation!

Hmmmm… After the bribing scandal/s in Italy, who knows whether Luca Toni (or any other player in Serie A) really did score.

i’m doing an assignment on Harry Kewell. He’s a terrific player and always playing at his best. Every good sportsman gets injuries, they arn’t excuses (i get lots of injuries during soccer games) meaning im a good soccer player…. he he he
