Japan’s coach Zico is in the depths of misery after hearing that a top FIFA official said Japan should have been awarded a penalty in the second half of their 3-1 defeat to Australia, “why are they saying this now when nothing can be changed? If we had been given that penalty it could have changed the face of the game." Either Zico must suffer from short-term memory loss, or he is only interested in incidents that affected his team. What about the goal by Japan that shouldn’t have been a goal. Even the referee admitted his mistake with this one. So let’s be fair here. Japan’s first goal should have been disallowed but they deserved a penalty, and if they converted the penalty the final score, and events continued as they did, the final score would still be 3-1 to Australia.
