I felt it was a good call by the ref and I believe many here don’t watch soccer and comment out of ignorance. Neil made a late tackle, he knew the consequences, that interfered with the play. “Any player who impedes the the progress of an opponent by crossing directly in front of him or runnig between him and the ball or intervening so as to form an obstacle with the aim of delaying his advance, must be sactioned with an indirect free kick…” It is a shame when people comment when they have no knowledge of the rules and purposely deceive others to fuel the anger and ignorance. The rule was taken from the 2005 United States Soccer Federation which is in compliance to Regional, National and World competitions. For those who are new to the sport, it is a beautiful sport and sometimes there are mistakes but this is not one of them. For those of you attacking Italy, well jealousy comes in many forms - their form of soccer is fantastic thats why the majority of the all the players in the World Cup play in Italy and to insult a people because of a game that is the highest form of ignorance and shame on You. For those of you who truely love the sport enjoy!

Zilkov,

You said it should have been an indirect free-kick, and I agree with you. BUT, an indirect free-kick in the penalty area cannot be given as a penalty. A penalty can only be given in the box as a result of a violation which results in a DIRECT free-kick only. If you don’t beleive me go to the FIFA website and read their rules.

Now I agree it was an indirect free-kick, but Grosso still made a meal of it and purposely dived. If he were a true sportsman he would have stayed on his feet, but instead he took the easy way out and took a dive.

Zilkov,
It is you who is ignorant of the rules my man. Go to FIFA.com and read the rules, not some two-bit rule book from a USA amateur comp!

The referee made an error in awarding a penalty. It was obstruction at best, and as such should have resulted in a indirect free kick where the incident took place.

Come back to this blog when you really are an expert and stop preaching your OPINIONS. Unsubstantiated opionions only “deceive others to fuel the anger and ignorance” as you so gracefully put it!

bye, bye!

youre the typical sorry british piece of trailer trash, you’re prolly poor, unemployed, ugly, fat, from an alcoholic background, don’t know personal hyigiene and probably you have been brought up in a shitty council house, like most people in the Uk, outside the inner London area where mostly foreigners live.

FORZA AZZURRI !

I AM AN AUSSIE AND I MUST SAY THAT I AM ASHAMED TO CALL MY SELF AN AUSTRALIAN. WE ARE THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITES AND THE WORST POSSIBLE LOSERS ON THE PLANET. WE ARE ON THE WORLDS STAGE HERE AND WE ACT LIKE CHILDREN. IT WAS DEFINATELY A PENALTY, MY FIRST REACTION WAS THE SAME AS THE REFS. AFTER WATCHING THE PENALTY A FEW HUNDRED TIMES IN SLOW MOTION I STILL THINK IT WAS THE RIGHT DECISION! THE REST OF THE WORLD SHOULD TAKE A PAGE OUT OF OUR BOOK WHEN IT COMES TO ONFIELD BEHAVIOUR, CRICKET: BOWLER BOWLS BALL ALONG THE GROUND SO NO RUNS CAN BE SCORED AGAINST LAST BALL OF THE MATCH, AUS WINS! RUGBY, NOT SURE OF THE CODE BUT A PLAYER WAS ACTUALLY STICKING HIS FINGER UP OTHER PLAYERS BUMS WHILE TACKLING THEM! THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

See what happened..? Italy cheated their way past Germany - gettings Torsten Frings tossed for defending his teammates who were being blindsided by Italy’s closest cousins - the Argentinians. Then keep bombarding the Best Player in the Final with racial slurs till he flips.. TRULY ITALIAN STYLE!!

Just remember, socceroos may not have scored a goal against the Italian’s but the Italians could not score for a whole 90 minutes either and needed a shitty penalty shot, wrongly awarded to win over a team which has never been in the world cup for some 30 years. The Italian team are patting themselves on the back for a job well done? They just barely made it past. JUST. They should all taking turns at kicking theyre team mates arses because they certainly didnt play “joga bonito”. As for buffoon or boofhead or whatever you call that Italian goal keeper, I really could not stopped laughing when he carried on about how he “knew” australia would lose and that they just weren’t good enough to beat us. What a load of elephant shyte. :P

Seriously if Australia failed to score against such an apparently “weak Italy” with 10 players for a whole 90 minutes, it means that Australia really sucks donkey balls.
Imagine Australia-Germany semifinal, or Australia-France final. That would have sucked more donkey balls.

Unbelievable!

Australia didn’t have laf thwe chances or near shots of Italy. The
match is still downloadable on the web for those with poor memory! (so are the stats)

I checked out a dozen newspapaers on internet the next day (in different languages, neat huh?), and EVERYONE concurred that the penalty was due also to the absurd red card given previously to Materazzi.

How can you write this stuff and not mention that red card????

if you go to fifaworldcup.com you can still see the Italy goals. When do you expect Australia to be able to play like this???

bonjour

Merci
respect sincère,

Mlle.Joyic Bamba
