All Eyes On Brazil v Croatia

June 13th, 2006 | By: Matt | 45 Comments »

No doubt the Australian diehards and those who have jumped on the Australian football bandwagon will now turn to the Brazil v Croatia match which will be played overnight. (5am local time) With Brazil next up for us, it will be good to see not only how they do against Croatia, but how Croatia does against Ronaldinho and Co.
Ideally, this is how we would like things to pan out for us over the next week and a half.

Tonight, Brazil beat Croatia convincingly.
Brazil beat Japan convincingly.
Croatia and Japan draw.
Australia beat/draw Croatia.

WALA! Round of 16.
We meet Italy/Czech Republic.

booboo, you have posted your silly comment from Australia, so you must know the term “walkabout”. How about taking one in the Simpson Desert and do us all a favour and don’t come back.

Lmao at Totti. Nice Brazilian name.

I hope you were satisfied with that performance against Croatia.

In all honesty…after seeing that game, i think Croatia will be tougher to break down then Brazil.

Hey booboo like i have said before,if it was the Croatia of 1998 Australia would be worried but it ain’t this is Croatia 2006, a team who does not have a Davor Suker(who was amazing in 1998 => goes into my where are they now file) , a Zvonimir Boban or a Robert Prosinecki. They qualified from the weakest part of Europe for Germany 2006 and were knocked out in the first round in Euro 2004. Including a comprehensive 4:2 hammering at the hands of England. They lost to denmark and drew with the Swiss in that tournament.

Then in their matches within the last year they have drawn with malta, drawn with hungary, lost to portugal, lost to South Korea, drawn with Iran and lost to both Poland and Spain (which was their last official friendly), thats why they are ranked world number 23, 5 spots below Japan. Brazil on the other hand have struggled with Croatia previously, their last meeting was a 1 all draw, they are not the only country brazil has struggled with Russia as well gave them a brilliant run for their money and they lost to Ecuador in their qualifiers. This is not a team that is in the same class of the great brazil teams of the 1970’s or that of the 2002 squad. This is a team going along on pure reputation and really not on performance. Like the saying goes they are a team of stars not a star team.

Liverpool FC, you think you have
football knowledge? I don’t.
You’re just a typical Aussie talking yourself up.Maybe you
should see where Croatias goals came from in qualifying and how
many they scored and conceded.
In 98 Davor Suker scored nearly
all the goals in qualifying and
in the Cup itself. They had 1-0
wins mainly with Suker scoring
most.This team had midfielders
and strikers sharing goals, and
not against the soloman Islands
and PNG. Surely you’re not
counting the pacific qualifiers
in your criteria for how well
you score goals in your midfield and defence?
The game was hardly
impressive viewing ? Not like the first 85 minutes of your game against Japan. You guys were
awesome weren’t you. Stick to
sports you know something about,
and don’t drag the Liverpool
name down with you. What a joke
you are ‘mate’.

Liverpool FC, you’re a fool.
Check your facts before writing
about Croatias 98 team.Suker
scored most of the goals single
handed in qualifying and in
the cup. This team had one of the best for and against records
in qualifying , shared amongst
the team with a midfielder, Srna, topping the list.Surely
you aren’t counting goals against Fiji and PNG when you
talk up your scorers. They wouldn’t publish my last message
to you so I’ve toned it down and
kept it simple, I’m sure you’ll
appreciate that. You can look that word up in the dictionary.

You posted that name in the
Brazil blog Liverpool FC.Now I’m
just laughing my arse off , you
really don’t know anything do you.Sorry, I thought you were a
serious football fan for a moment.I shouldn’t have been so hard on you.

Suker scored 6 goals in that world cup idiot hardly enough to get to 3rd place in the worldcup wow! u’ve got some great knowledge there. Like I said mate weakest oppenents in europe for qualifying and first round exit out of Euro 2004 doesnt’ really make great reading now, does it?

BTW just so u know England gave Croatia a 4:2 thumping in 2004, Australia gave England a 3:1 thumping in 2003. You know, just so you know and get your facts right.

LiverpoolFC your a funny one.
Since you love to bring up statistics on Croatia and stress that we lack skill lets compare the two shall we.
2004 2-2 with the Solomon Islands, Australia didn’t win a game at the Confederations Cup 2005, Australia didn’t qualify for the 2002 world cup (Croatia did). Austrilia’s lost to New Zealand( Brazil beat them 4-0). I can continue but by now you should get my point. Also don’t forget Australia has a reliance on its Croatian/Australian players who dominate the team.
You can gloat all you want if Australia beat Brazil and Croatia hell ill change my name to SMITH.
Its funny how now every Australian is a Football expert after just two big games.
It makes me laugh!!!

Let out of school early today, Rocco? Or are you an adult whose debating skills have not evolved further than your typical school ground big noter? I’m thinking the latter.

Yea mate Australia is a multicultural country unlike Croatia just in case you didn’t notice. If you really wanted to go down backgrounds Timmy Cahill’s mum is Tahitian so there u go and who scored the 2 goals against Japan? We don’t go into backgrounds here. We are all Australian at the end of the day whether our families/ancestors came from Croatia, Greece, England, Spain, US, Ghana, India, Maldives, Tahiti whereva mate. We’re all Australian and thats what makes us special.

We’ll see how good you and your Croatian boyz are when you play Japan mate. Personally I’d put my money on the samurai slashing you to bits. After all they are ranked 18th in the world right but then again that is just stats. I’m sure they will field a full strength team unlike Australia at the confederations cup, man lost to new zealand woah!!! with whom our under 19 team against their top team? LOL keep up the good work mate and yeah looking forward to seeing ur boyz exciting another one at the first round. WorldCup 2002, Euro 2004, World Cup 2006 damn thats a hat-trick :) get ur 98′ boyz back quick. Why do u even bother qualifying srsly when u can hardly even win a game?

Guys, this is a discussion area. Disagreeing with peoples opinions is fine but do not put each other down and resort to name calling, and the whole ‘I know more about football than you’ saga.

Rocco, LiverpoolFC, and Milan, you guys are welcome to discuss football on here but if you are going to continue to bicker I will ban you guys from this area. The discussion you are in the middle of at the moment will cease immediately.

CRRAAAZZZZYYYY please refrain from typing all in caps.

Thanking you in advance.

you know funny thing the croats were still singing and cheering even with the 1 x 0 score .. They were very satisfied with it. Im from brasil but i live in the US and the crowd in the stadium was starting to bug me they just wouldn’t stop.. I mean these croats are hungry for a qualification and i think they’ll make it and i bet that if they do we will see’em again just like what happened with turkey on the last world cup… I would rather see Australia playing against Brasil a second time than Croatia ..But hey, good luck to us all .. even Brazil needs it so lets see what happens..

What I want out of the Brazil game: Australia to come out of it with heads high and the respect of neutral viewers. We know we’ll get pride and passion regardless. I want to see discipline, organisation and patience for 90 mins. Especially if Brazil go ahead.

One or three points and a JPN-CRO draw beforehand would be nice too. ;-)
